On October 12, 2023, with the guidance and support of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park, the 3rd Secretary-General Salon, hosted by Zhongguancun Federation of Social Organizations and organized by the Translational Medicine Branch of China Association of Medical Equipment Association, was successfully convened. The meeting was attended by Liang Jie, Director of the Technology Service Industry Department of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and Gu Mu, Deputy Director of the Technology Service Industry Department of Beijing Science and Technology Innovation Promotion Center. Additionally, 5 social organization secretaries and leaders participated in discussions and exchanges, with the meeting chaired by Dai Jian, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of Zhongguancun Federation of Social Organizations.
To begin, Liang Jie introduced the “Joint Action for the Development of Technology-based Social Organizations Serving Enterprises”. He explained the background, objectives, supporting policies, and incubation outcomes of this initiative. Liang emphasized that over the two-year course, more than 30 social organizations had received support, resulting in a steady improvement in their service capabilities, a sharper focus on their work, and a substantial increase in the quantity of projects. He also highlighted the ongoing research into the effectiveness of the Joint Action, seeking valuable feedback on its coverage and applicability. Liang hoped that the implementation of the Joint Action would attract more social organizations to actively participate in the development of Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center and the establishment of leading global science and technology park in Zhongguancun.
Following that, Li Weidong, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of the Translational Medicine Branch of China Association of Medical Equipment Association, presented an overview of the current status of the medical industry’s development, the key initiatives of various branches within China Association of Medical Equipment Association, and the relevant details about Beijing Huawei Public Welfare Foundation. Li stressed the importance of fostering a two-way collaboration between the demand for and industrialization of technological innovations in medical equipment. He also expressed the desire for collaboration with technology-based social organizations in Beijing to create public service platforms for the industrialization of medical equipment, demonstrating and applying major technological achievements, and providing capital service platforms.
Subsequently, the attending secretary-generals respectively shared their organization’s backgrounds, core resources and capabilities, significant achievements over the past two years, and major work plans for the next two years. They discussed how their work aligned with the development of Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center and offered recommendations for collaboration. They showcased their notable accomplishments in offering technology-based financial services to businesses, providing guidance for companies seeking IPOs, facilitating technology transfer, and establishing expert think tanks. They expressed their desire to leverage the Federation’s platform to share the resources of technology-based social organizations in Beijing, actively engaging in the social organization work system, and collectively creating distinctive services.
In conclusion, Liang Jie articulated 3 key requirements for the work of social organizations. Firstly, they should clarify their roles, set clear objectives, leverage their strengths, and demonstrate landmark achievements. Secondly, they should analyze their core capabilities and enhance their service capabilities. Thirdly, they should focus on enhancing their publicity efforts and summarizing and refining their work results. Liang also noted that participation in the Secretary-General Salon had facilitated the enhanced communication and collaboration among social organizations, leading to innovative ideas.
The hosting of this event promoted cross-communication and deepened cooperation among the members, providing clear guidance for the high-quality development of technology-based social organizations in Beijing.
Looking ahead, Zhongguancun Federation of Social Organizations will continue to serve as a hub for social organizations, rallying the strength of technology-based social organizations and organizing Secretary-General Salon events for member units to support the critical tasks of “Building Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center and Creating the World's Leading Science and Technology Park in Zhongguancun”. Social organizations are encouraged to participate in hosting these events.
