Successful Visit of the UK Biotechnology Expert Delegation to Zhongguancun Science City

On the morning of April 30th, a delegation of UK biotechnology experts visited Zhongguancun Science City at the invitation of the European Representative Office of China Investment Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Commerce and  Zhongguancun Federation of Social Organizations. The visit aimed to understand the innovative development and latest technological achievements of Zhongguancun Science City. Both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge technologies and development trends in the biopharmaceutical field, exploring potential areas for ongoing cooperation.

The UK biotechnology expert delegation included prominent figures such as Ross Cagan, Regius Professor of Precision Medicine at the University of Glasgow; Nathan McNally, co-founder of the UK P4 Precision Medicine Accelerator; Robin Peter Tensen, CEO of GlobalTechIP, the UK Global Technology Innovation Service Alliance; and Andrew Smith, CEO in Asia of UK Harbr Investment and Incubator Company. Attendees from Zhongguancun Science City included Liu Chunzhe, Director of the Investment Service Center of Zhongguancun Science City Management Committee; Yuan Xueqin, Deputy Director of the 3rd Industry Promotion Division; Dai Lian, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Zhongguancun Science City Innovation Development Co., Ltd.; Guo Yingan, Global Innovation Ecosystem Director of Beijing Zhongguancun Innoway Technology Service Co., Ltd.; Cai Bin, Chairman of X-Magtech; and Sun Yuhui, CEO of Vistel. The meeting was hosted by Xie Wei, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of Zhongguancun Federation of Social Organizations.

At the beginning of the meeting, Liu Chunzhe warmly welcomed the UK biotechnology delegation and provided a detailed introduction to the latest developments in Zhongguancun Science City. He highlighted the area's innovative R&D resources, key industry plans, and favorable business environment, emphasizing Zhongguancun's commitment to fostering advanced industries and expressing hope for future professional collaborations.

Subsequently, Dai Lian introduced the development and business layout of Beijing Zhongguancun Science City Innovation Development Co., Ltd., while Guo Yingan elaborated on the ecosystem and innovation support services of Zhongguancun Innoway.

For UK delegation, Nathan McNally explained the operational model of the P4 Precision Medicine Accelerator and its project features, showcasing international cooperation cases and high-quality projects in the biotechnology field, and expressing strong expectations for future collaborations.

Robin Peter Tensen, CEO of GlobalTechIP and a special foreign expert under the "Hai Zhi Plan" of the China Association for Science and Technology, along with Andrew Smith, shared insights into GlobalTechIP’s development and the services offered to assist Chinese life health enterprises in expanding overseas, citing successful cases. They praised the abundant resources in Haidian District, noting its vast development potential and favorable conditions for international cooperation.

Ross Cagan, Regius Professor of Precision Medicine at the University of Glasgow and Co-founder and Board Member of Medros Inc., provided a video introduction on the forefront of precision medicine research in Scotland and expressed intentions for collaboration with China.

Additionally, the chairmen of Vistel, and X-Magtech, detailed their companies' needs for overseas expansion, seeking to achieve technological export and market growth through international partnerships. The founder and CEO of Everybaby, a UK preterm birth screening company, Dabriel Choi, and Mark John Bartlett, CEO of the UK smart genetic testing company StoreGene, showcased their advanced research achievements and expressed strong intentions to develop in China.

In the communicating session, attendees engaged in thorough discussions on the feasibility and methods of potential collaborations.

The successful hosting of this meeting will further promote Sino-British exchanges and cooperation in the biotechnology field. Zhongguancun Federation of Social Organizations will continue to build exchange platforms between China and European countries such as the UK and Germany, focusing on attracting global high-quality industrial resources, and helping domestic and international technology companies explore new paths for technological innovation, thereby promoting the wave of global sustainable development.
